Our History

“When I was twelve years old my dad asked me if I wanted to sand floors with him. My job was to carry tools, equipment and to scrape corners. After only a year, I was already edging, scraping and preparing the floors for finishing. By the time I was 14, I was doing complete floor jobs on my own after school and on summer vacations. In the summer my dad would drop off the equipment and I would ride my bicycle all over South St. Louis to work on floors. In 1972, I served in the military and when I came back I put a small ad in the South Side Journal for floor sanding and refinishing. My first office was a small closet of a rental home in my neighborhood. I ran my business alone until 1986 when my grade school friend Ron and I decided to become partners and grow the business. Ron and I worked successfully building our business until his retirement. After that, my son Andy came into the business in 2008 as my partner. Andy began his flooring career with us at the age of 10, the same way I started mine all those years ago. Andy is now the third generation Piry to run our floor company”.
